Kepce, Sedef Cokay & Senem Özden Gerçeker IMAGES IN TERRACOTTA Ancient Terracotta Figurines in the Sadberk Hanim Museum Collection / Kilden Suretler. Sadberk Hanim Muzesi Koleksiyonundan Antik Cag Terrakotta Figurinleri Vehbi Koç Foundation / Sadberk Hanim Museum 2011 9756959541 / 9789756959541 Paperback Very Good Minor creasing to 1 corner and to top edge of rear wrap. Minor shelfwear. ; The "Images in Terracotta" exhibition being held on 18 November 2011-15 April 2012 consists of Greek and Roman period terracotta figurines in the Vehbi Koc Foundation Sadberk Hanim Museum. Production of figurines can be traced back to prehistoric times, when people began to depict sacred entities or figures they held in regard. These were made of diverse materials, depending on the period and region. In antiquity the preferred material was terracotta. The earliest examples were shaped by hand, but in later centuries moulding techniques were introduced and mass production began. The terracotta figurines dating from Greek and Roman periods that are the subject of this exhibition were principally used as votive offerings or grave gifts, as demonstrated both by ancient written sources and archaeological excavations. Figurines representing gods and goddesses predominate among those with sacred significance. In addition the exhibition includes figurines that reflect daily life in antiquity, such as mothers nursing their babies or sewing. ; 232 pages

Knipp, David 'CHRISTUS MEDICUS' IN DER FRÜHCHRISTLICHEN SARKOPHAGSKULPTUR Ikonographische Studien Zur Sepulkralkunst Des Späten Vierten Jahrhunderts Brill Academic Publishers 1998 9004108629 / 9789004108622 Hardcover Fine in Fine dust jacket Unwrapped in Plastic. ; In German. This study deals with the representation of Christ's Healing Miracles in early Christian sepulchral art from Provence and Northern Italy. It sees the imagery through the contemporary exegetical writings and tries thus to uncover new strata of symbolic significance in early Christian art. The aim of the work is to reveal the complex theological concepts reflected in the relief decoration of a small number of late fourth-century sarcophagi and to cast thus light upon the spiritual climate of the sphere the persons who commissioned them were part of. It also links the narrative structure of representations of medical treatment and miracle scenes in ancient art with the Christian images and establishes new formal and iconographic connexions. ; Vigiliae Christianae, Supplements , No 37; 0.86 x 9.64 x 6.52 Inches; 209 pages

Kuttner, Ann L. DYNASTY AND EMPIRE IN THE AGE OF AUGUSTUS The Case of the Boscoreale Cups University of California Press 1995 0520067738 / 9780520067738 Hardcover Very Good in Good+ dust jacket Signed by Author Inscribed by author to ffep in pencil: "A Gift from Ann Kuttner". Minor shelfwear and rubbing to boards. Dustjacket has shelfwear and rubbing with some creasing. Two tears to back panel and light chipping to heel of DJ spine. ; 465 pages; The two silver skyphoi commonly known as the Boscoreale Cups of Augustus and Tiberius are indispensable for providing the documentation of one of the only two cycles of Roman imperial state reliefs to survive from the Julio-Claudian period. Ann Kuttner offers the first comprehensive examination of these historical treasures. Kuttner studies the Cups not only from the standpoint of art history but also as they relate to Augustan ideology and politics. When she began work on this book, the whereabouts of the Cups were unknown, and she had to rely on the illustrations in Monuments et Memoires (Fondation Eugen Pinot, 1901). The rediscovery of the Cups at the Louvre in late 1990 has allowed Kuttner to examine them directly. ; Signed by Author
